Introducing Cas: The AI Assistant Built Into Every OrdoLux Matter

Cas — the AI assistant built into OrdoLux

Cas is OrdoLux's built-in AI assistant. It drafts letters, summarises documents, sends emails, logs time and keeps your house style — all from inside the matter workspace.

We've been building something significant. Today we're shipping it.

Cas is the AI assistant now built directly into every OrdoLux matter workspace. Not a browser extension. Not a separate tab. Not a generic chatbot with no idea what file you're working on. An assistant that lives inside the matter, knows the context, and can actually do things.

Here's what that looks like in practice.

What Cas does

Drafts correspondence — ask Cas to draft a client update, a letter before action, a chase email, or a first-pass witness summary. It pulls in the matter context — parties, references, key dates — and drafts against your firm's house style automatically.

Sends emails on your behalf — when Cas drafts an email, a "Send email" button appears directly on the draft. One click sends it from your own Outlook mailbox via Microsoft 365. The email is saved to your Sent Items. No copy-pasting, no switching tabs.

Summarises documents — drag a PDF, Word document or email into Cas and ask it to summarise, check for issues, or draft a reply. It extracts the text, processes it in context, and archives the document to the matter's SharePoint folder automatically.

Logs the time — after any exchange with Cas, a "Log time" button lets you create a time entry directly from the conversation. The description is pre-filled from the work Cas just did. One click to billing.

Remembers your house style — Cas learns your firm's correspondence style. Upload a letter and it extracts your salutation format, sign-off, register and paragraph structure. Every subsequent draft matches it. You can also configure it explicitly in settings.

Works with voice — tap the microphone icon and dictate. Cas transcribes your instruction and responds in kind.

How it works technically

Cas uses the OpenAI API — specifically GPT-4o. You connect your own OpenAI API key through the OrdoLux Platform Admin. OrdoLux does not charge anything extra for Cas. Your usage costs go directly to your OpenAI account, which you control.

This is the same model we use across every third-party integration in OrdoLux: you hold the relationship with the provider, you manage the cost, and we provide the workflow layer.

Legal safeguards built in

Cas is designed for a regulated environment. Every response carries a mandatory footer: Cas output requires fee earner review before use. Not legal advice.

The system prompt instructs Cas never to cite a case, statute or practice direction unless it appears in the loaded matter context. Responses are scanned for citation patterns — anything unverified is flagged with a warning badge before it reaches your screen.

Cas does not give legal advice. It drafts, summarises and flags. The fee earner reviews, approves and is responsible for everything that goes out.

Getting started

Cas is available on all OrdoLux plans. To activate it:

  1. Go to Platform Admin → Features → Cas AI
  2. Enter your OpenAI API key
  3. Select your model (GPT-4o recommended)
  4. Test the connection

Once active, the Cas panel appears in every matter workspace via the AI tab.

If you're not yet using OrdoLux, book a demo and we'll show you Cas in action.

Cas is named after Cassian — a quiet, capable figure who gets things done without fanfare. Seemed right.
